This is the full digital release of my 2020 SAL (Stitch-A-Long), with all 12 parts condensed in one booklet! Depending in your location you can download the ‘paper’ format (North & South America mainly) or A4 (rest of the world). Like previous years, has been a hashtag for this one which can still be used: #MFESAL2020 – so make sure to share your stitching with this hashtag, and follow the hashtag to check on other stitchers’ progress! This design features mainly full crosses, and has a few backstitches (all of them in the houses). There are no other specialty stitches – although you can embellish the design to your liking! For this design I took inspiration from the idea of Scottish family samplers, where stitchers would embroider the initials of their family and loved ones, and creating unique heirlooms. I transformed this idea into the idea of a patchwork quilt, where lots of small pieces of fabric make up a larger design. In the pattern, small shapes are placed around a large central design featuring a tree of life. It features influences from all the things that I love in crafts: there’s Scandinavian influences, Quaker medallions, Marken style borders (from the Netherlands) – and like a family of individuals, they all come together and form a whole.
