Chart creator, Designer Love of wildflowers has shaped Jan Woodman's professional life for well over 20 years. Born in Adelaide, South Australia, she inherited her parents' love of the bush and outback. Her mother was a landscape painter and her father a keen photographer. This early interest was rekindled in the late 1970s when Jan, her husband Keith and their two children moved from the city to the country. Already a talented embroiderer Jan was drawn to flower painting, studied the subject for five years becoming an accomplished botanical artist. Study of plant structure with botanists at the State Herbarium in the Botanic Gardens gave scientific credibility and accuracy to Jan's exquisite work. Since then she has widely exhibited at numerous solo and group showings. Magic of the Forest is Jan Woodman's fifth book and with her many skills she is not only its author and illustrator but also the graphic designer.
